GMKtec NucBox K8 Plus

GMKtec NucBox K8 Plus combines AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS with integrated Radeon 780M for office multitasking, development and media work. Gaming and GPU-accelerated applications depend on their settings and driver support; the graphics specification alone is not a measured performance result. Replaceable SO-DIMM memory gives it a path for later RAM upgrades. OCuLink allows a separate compatible external GPU dock; connect or disconnect it only with the PC powered off.

What owners say

Everyone agrees this machine is quiet, and then each describes a different noise. One reviewer hears a low hum, another finds it louder than the Intel box it replaced, an owner calls it high-pitched. Three owners explain why they are all right: there are two fans, and the one that annoys is not the processor's but the case fan under the translucent plastic lid, which pushes air through a narrow slit and resonates against it. The firmware's quiet mode only lowers the processor's power budget and never touches that fan, which holds around 1,900 rpm whatever you set. One owner published his fix, switching the system fan from automatic to enabled and dropping its starting value, and reports the machine became inaudible. Two things you cannot fix. The wireless is a lottery: the maker's own driver package carries drivers for both an Intel card from 2019 and a newer MediaTek one, while the product page advertises only the newer standard, and owners describe the older card losing networks after sleep. And the maker publishes a peak power figure above what AMD specifies for this processor while publishing no firmware at all for this model, so there is nothing to update when something needs fixing.

For whom
A cheap and genuinely fast desktop, with OCuLink for an external graphics card, for someone willing to spend ten minutes in the firmware setting the fan curve themselves.
Not for
Depending on its wireless, and anyone who would need a warranty honoured from abroad: one owner was told the return shipping cost more than the machine.
