MINISFORUM MS-A2 (9955HX)

MINISFORUM MS-A2 (9955HX) uses AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX with Radeon 610M. Designed around CPU and network expansion for virtualization, development or storage services. The USB-C ports are 10Gbps rather than USB4; Radeon 610M is an integrated display GPU, so a strong CPU does not imply high-end gaming performance.

What owners say

Reviewers call this one of the best home-lab nodes of its class, and the reason is the combination nobody else offers at the size: sixteen Zen 5 cores with no efficiency cores to confuse a hypervisor's scheduler, two SFP+ 10GbE ports and a PCIe slot. Owners confirm 9.4 Gbit/s between two of them, but also that the Intel X710 is wired to four PCIe lanes instead of the eight Intel specifies, and that it accounts for a large share of the idle draw — which is why measurements range from 16 W to 45 W depending on who took them and what was running. The real complaint is noise: the fan never stops and the curve hunts up and down, with one lab measuring 41.5 dB(A) at idle, though an owner running a custom curve calls it inaudible in a rack. Under sustained load it settles around 84 °C and gives back some clock. It boots with 128 GB despite the official 96 GB ceiling, but ECC does not work: the modules are seen and the correction never engages. And the after-sales record of this manufacturer is the most repeated warning in the comments.

For whom
Virtualisation and dense multi-threaded work in four litres, with 10GbE included and room for a graphics card.
Not for
Anyone who needs ECC that actually corrects, Thunderbolt, Quick Sync or any graphics at all: the Radeon 610M is little more than a display output.
