MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra (285HX)
MINISFORUM MS-02 Ultra (285HX) uses Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX with Intel Graphics. A larger compact workstation for PCIe expansion, virtualization and network-heavy tasks. NIC, ECC memory and SSD expansion differ between standard and NS packages, so a matching CPU alone is not enough to compare configurations.

Specifications
Processor, graphics and installed memory/storage describe the selected configuration. Expansion limits and connectivity describe the model; optional hardware is identified separately. References are collected in About this data below.

- Ports & displays
- Two front USB4 v2 80Gbps Type-C, one rear USB4 40Gbps Type-C, four USB-A 10Gbps, HDMI 2.1 FRL and a 3.5 mm combo jack.
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
- Documented 285HX edition (not 285HX-NS): one 10GbE RJ45, one 2.5GbE RJ45 and a dual-port 25GbE expansion NIC. Wi-Fi 7 (Intel BE200) and Bluetooth 5.4. Link ratings are not measured network throughput.
- RAM & storage upgrades
- Four DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, manufacturer-listed up to 256 GB, with ECC support in the documented 285HX edition. ECC support does not establish that the 32GB retail configuration contains ECC modules. Two onboard M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots (up to 8 TB each) plus two M.2 slots on the 25GbE NIC. PCIe 5.0 x16, PCIe 4.0 x16 (x4+x4+x4) and PCIe 4.0 x4 expansion. The separate 285HX-NS edition lacks ECC support and the two NIC-mounted storage slots.
- Power supply & power limits
- Internal PSU rated up to 350 W, 100–240 V AC input. This is supply capacity, not measured consumption.
- Dimensions & weight
- 221.5 × 97 × 225 mm for the MS-02 Ultra chassis, as reported in TechRadar's 285HX review; weight varies with the fitted expansion hardware.

What owners say
At 4.8 litres and 3.4 kg this has stopped being a mini PC in the usual sense, and reviewers point out it now competes with ordinary small towers. What justifies it is the networking: two 25GbE ports as standard on an Intel E810, sitting in a semi-proprietary x16 slot that is really wired as three x4, with two extra M.2 sockets on the same card that default to Gen3 for stability. Idle noise is the real complaint and it does not come from the heatsink but from the internal power-supply fan, whose speed cannot be adjusted; one lab measured 38 dB(A) permanently at idle and the manufacturer promised customer units would be corrected, while a second lab measured 35 dB(A) on the same model and called it discreet. Two independent measurements that disagree means noise is a unit-by-unit lottery today, not a settled fact. The four-core Arrow Lake integrated graphics are token — Cyberpunk 2077 averages under 13 FPS at 1080p Ultra — so a discrete card is not optional here. And there is a catch few mention: fitting that card makes the BIOS drop the processor from 100/140 W to 90/110 W, so the use case that justifies the machine is the one that clips its CPU.
- For whom
- A home lab that wants 25GbE, a real PCIe slot and 24 threads in a box you can carry, and is willing to add a graphics card.
- Not for
- Anyone who needs it silent at idle, anyone counting on the integrated graphics, and anyone who wants the memory to run at the speed Intel validates: Minisforum caps it at DDR5-4800, and at 4400 with two modules per channel.

Notes
- The two documented US configuration sources identify 285HX, not 285HX-NS (SKUs MS-02U-28500US and MS-02U-28531US). ECC support and the NIC-mounted SSD slots belong to that edition. Installed ECC memory is not confirmed for the 32GB configuration; do not transfer these edition features to an NS offer.
