Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 5 (8700GE)

- Graphics
- Radeon 780M
- Memory
- 16 GB
- Storage
- 512 GB
- Ports & displays
- Front: USB-C 10Gbps, 2 × USB-A 10Gbps and headset jack. Rear: 1 × USB-A 10Gbps, 3 × USB 2.0, HDMI 2.1 TMDS and DisplayPort 1.4. Additional video, serial or USB connections require optional rear modules.
- Ethernet, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
- 1 × Gigabit Ethernet (Realtek RTL8111FP, Wake-on-LAN/DASH). Family wireless options include Wi-Fi 6/6E with Bluetooth 5.3 or Wi-Fi 7 with Bluetooth 5.4; wireless is optional and not assumed installed.
- RAM & storage upgrades
- 2 × DDR5 SO-DIMM running at 5200 MT/s. Lenovo lists 32 GB standard offerings and 64 GB (2 × 32 GB) for special bids. 2 × M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD slots plus separate WLAN slot. The PSREF storage summary says 1 TB per drive, while its offering table also lists a 2 TB performance SSD; confirm that SKU before purchase.

What owners say
ServeTheHome bought one of these with its own money, and owners on enthusiast forums add what a server buyer needs to know. It is quiet and frugal at rest — 5 to 15 W at idle under Windows, around 7 W on a Linux desktop, and 34 to 36 dBA at a metre, barely above the lab's noise floor — but after about two minutes of sustained load it climbs to 47 to 48 dBA while holding 63 to 66 W. Lenovo store owners split the same way: one found the fan exceedingly loud most of the time, another found it quiet driving three monitors for accounting work. It ships with a single 16 GB module; add a second, and ServeTheHome ran 96 GB and 128 GB kits, well past Lenovo's official 64 GB. ECC is another matter: despite the PRO chip, an owner's unit would not boot with ECC memory, before or after a BIOS update. The front USB-C port carries data only; stock outputs are HDMI and one DisplayPort, the network is Realtek gigabit, and the lab's new unit would not start until its dead CMOS battery was replaced. The fan module comes off without tools but is tethered by three sets of wires. This 35 W chip runs 5 to 20% behind a 65 W Ryzen 7 8700G.
- For whom
- A quiet office desktop or low-power home server with room for 128 GB of memory and a second SSD.
- Not for
- ECC-memory server builds, multi-monitor setups without the optional rear port module, and anyone who needs video from the front USB-C.
