GMKtec NucBox M3 Ultra

What owners say

Three reviewers had this i7-12700H box, and all of them heard the fan. Notebookcheck measured up to 45.6 dB(A) under load and calls the fan control immature; a Japanese reviewer's handheld meter passed 54 dB, including room noise, and found even the BIOS Quiet mode fairly loud; TechRadar heard it but was not distracted. It ships at 35 W, with a 45 W Performance and a 28 W Silent mode, and in the factory state the stress test settled near 74 °C at about 56 W from the wall, while the underside reached almost 50 °C. The Japanese reviewer logged thermal throttling under PCMark in every mode. The factory SSD varies: one unit had an uncooled TWSC drive that slowed under sustained load, another a drive under a heatsink. Both memory slots come filled, so upgrading means replacing the modules, and the second SSD slot is a 2242 that takes SATA or NVMe. There is no USB-C at the front. Wi-Fi 6 averaged 975 Mbit/s. Low DPC latency makes it a good home-theatre PC, while games run only at low settings — Tekken 8 broke up on screen at times. Fan aside, the Japanese reviewer rated its performance, serviceability and finish highly for the price.

For whom

Not for
