Two reviewers had this Core Ultra 5 125U box in the 32 GB / 1 TB configuration we list, and both found it barely makes a sound: about 33 dB(A) at idle and under 35 under load in a 24 dB room, thanks to a large, slow fan. The case surfaces are among the coolest one lab has measured, and under Prime95 the chip settles at 25 W and 57 °C. It draws 8 to 9 W at idle and peaks at 54 W, and can run from a strong enough USB-C charger instead of its large 100 W brick. The price of that calm is size: about 155 × 151 × 78 mm for a low-power U-series chip, the same case as the much faster AMD K12, which one lab points to instead. What the size buys is ports and room: two USB-C ports, OCuLink, two 2.5GbE ports, three M.2 slots and two DDR5 slots behind a single screwdriver. The Fan-Mode button on top only changes the RGB lighting. Simple 4K cuts in DaVinci Resolve were smooth and colour grading was not, and Cyberpunk manages 25 to 30 FPS at 1080p on the lowest settings. Under Linux everything was detected at once and felt snappier than Windows.

A near-silent home server or home-theatre PC with plenty of ports and storage slots.

Not for

Anyone who wants a small box, or performance beyond office and media work — the K12 in the same case is far faster.
