GMKtec NucBox M3

GMKtec NucBox M3 combines Intel Core i5-12450H with integrated Intel UHD Graphics for office multitasking, development and media work. Gaming and GPU-accelerated applications depend on their settings and driver support; the graphics specification alone is not a measured performance result. Replaceable SO-DIMM memory gives it a path for later RAM upgrades.

What owners say

Four reviewers had this Core i5-12450H box, including one who bought his own, and they split on whether it is worth its power draw. Notebookcheck calls the fan its worst trait: it pulses far more than most, spiking to 39 dB(A) as apps launch and reaching 37 to 43.5 under load; a Japanese owner-reviewer says his fan normally stays off, and the home-lab reviewer calls it extremely quiet by server standards. Under Prime95 the chip holds 45 W for about ten seconds, then settles at 35 W and 1.8 GHz to stay near 75 °C, and idle draw is 10.6 to 12.5 W, which led Notebookcheck to conclude it is not fast enough over cheaper U-series machines to justify the power and noise; TechRadar called it one of the best mini PCs it had tested. The USB-C port is sold with DisplayPort, but none of the lab's monitors got a picture. For home labs the news is mixed: Proxmox 8 powered the machine off mid-install, ESXi needs a boot option to avoid a purple-screen crash, and the Intel 2.5GbE port works in ESXi 8. A second SSD must be 42 mm or shorter, and there is no 2.5-inch bay. The plastic shell feels cheap next to a NUC.

For whom
An office desktop with Intel 2.5GbE and a heatsinked SSD, for someone who does not mind a busy fan.
Not for
Proxmox home servers — the reviewer who bought one does not recommend it for that — quiet rooms and modern games.

Tested hardware
Intel Core i5-12450H, 8 cores / 12 threads, Alder Lake-H, 45 W PL2 short burst and 35 W PL1 sustained · Intel UHD Graphics Xe G4 48EUs, driver 31.0.101.4575 (not used: this row renders on the processor) · 32 GB DDR4-3200, dual channel, 19-19-19-43 · not applicable: a CPU render does not read from disk while the measurement runs; the unit carried a Lexar NM610 Pro (NM610P001T-HNNNG) of 1024 GB
Software / version / OS
Blender · 2.79 · Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Power profile
Windows set to Performance mode before the benchmarks; processor limits 45 W PL2 short burst and 35 W PL1 sustained, as printed in the review's specification table
Test conditions
BMW27 standard demo scene, CPU render backend as the chart labels it (v2.79 BMW27 CPU). Samples and output resolution are those stored in the standard scene file. The same chart prints an average of 379 s for this processor across 7 machines, range 330 to 429 s: this unit is the slowest of them
