Its 10-gigabit port switches itself off. The light on the connector goes dark and nothing brings it back but a reboot, and at least eight owners describe it across two threads and a public bug report, on Windows and on Linux alike. One of them documented a trap worth knowing: while the card is dead the system still reports a healthy link, so the only honest indicator is the packet counter, which reads as an impossible number because the device has stopped answering at all. Two owners built repeatable triggers and they contradict each other. One kills it every time by loading the graphics for about three minutes, and finds the processor at full load for six minutes completely stable; the other finds the opposite, that the failure follows the processor ramping up quickly, and prevents it for hours by capping the boost clock. A third capped the processor to 99 per cent and it failed anyway. The maker has been trying to reproduce it since late August, sent private firmware to four owners and fixed none of them, and offers to pay for a USB network adapter in the meantime. The rest is good: a single fan a reviewer heard at full speed exactly once, a three-year warranty, and everything inside replaceable.

Everything except the network port. It is quiet, well built, fully serviceable and it dual-boots.

Not for

Anything that needs wired networking to stay up under load, which is the port this machine is sold on.
