What owners say
The base 15-core CPU/16-core GPU model earns its place through particular workloads, rather than winning every comparison. Adam Talks Tech tested the exact 24 GB/512 GB configuration, borrowed from B&H, against a 16 GB M6 mini. His M5 Pro handled more simultaneous video streams, larger Logic projects, GPU rendering and local-model generation better, while the cheaper M6 finished his Final Cut exports and Lightroom AI Denoise sooner. Even within one application, playback and export can therefore favour different machines. His experience makes the Pro easier to justify for sustained project complexity than for occasional editing. Andrew Tsai separately tested the same base chip in native Mac games and Windows games through CrossOver; his transcript does not identify RAM or SSD. Hitman behaved well, while other titles required lower settings or upscaling, and Monster Hunter Wilds had persistent stutters. Extra GPU cores do not remove the compatibility and tuning work involved in Mac gaming. These are tests of the 15/16 chip, not the optional 18/20 version. The practical buying question is whether your own applications need the Pro's additional headroom; a larger specification alone does not guarantee that a particular job finishes sooner.

- Multicam editors, musicians with large sessions and users doing regular GPU or local-model work who need more headroom than the M6.

- Occasional editors paying for an upgrade without a workload that benefits, or buyers expecting trouble-free Windows gaming.
