GMKtec M5 Ultra

What owners say

Two reviewers had this Ryzen 7 7730U box — a Zen 3 chip, although one review calls it Zen 4 — and they found a quiet, flexible machine rather than a fast one. After heavy benchmarks one measured about 44 dB close to the unit, a processor peak around 63 °C, and 98.4% stability over a 20-loop graphics stress test. Oddly, an older 5825U mini PC was about 10% faster in the other reviewer's tests, and he could not say why. The case is all plastic with a paint finish that marks easily; one unit arrived scuffed. GMKtec puts a label over the network ports suggesting Windows be set up offline to skip the long first update, and owners agree. Inside, a pull-off lid and four screws reach a second, empty M.2 2280 slot; both slots are PCIe 3.0 and unlabelled. Every fast USB port, including the only USB-C, is at the front, with two USB 2.0 ports at the back, and there is no USB4 or OCuLink. Verified store owners run it as a Proxmox host for OPNsense over the two 2.5GbE ports, cool in Quiet mode. The warnings come from a French retailer's verified buyers: one reports constant blue and black screens, another a sleep bug that support fixed by disabling sleep. Prices have risen since the launch reviews.

For whom

A quiet general-purpose PC or small Proxmox and firewall host with two 2.5GbE ports.

Not for

Power users, anyone who needs USB4 or fast rear ports, and buyers who rely on sleep.
