No laboratory has published a test bench for this machine that we were able to read, which for a computer at this price is the first thing worth knowing. What does exist is its maker's own forum, and the owners there are specific. Start with what they found that nobody else reports: there are two different A9 Megas. GEEKOM's support confirmed that units sold through shops carry an improved cooling module and an extra firmware mode, while the ones from the crowdfunding campaign cannot be upgraded because of cooling limits, and the two receive different firmware files. Several owners describe fans that spin up every minute or two and settle again after about two seconds while the machine is completely idle, identically on Windows, Ubuntu and Fedora; the maker's answer is to wait for firmware. Fan speed cannot be controlled from Linux at all, which support states plainly. One owner lost his ROCm setup after a controller firmware update and could not go back, because the previous version is not published. And one spent days believing his 128 GB machine had only 64, until he found the graphics driver reserving half of it by default in its own tuning tab.

For whom

A large unified memory pool for someone buying from a shop rather than inheriting a campaign unit, and who will set the firmware to its quiet profile on day one.

Not for

Local AI on Linux, where the software has gone backwards at least once with no way back and the fans cannot be controlled at all.
